What’s the truth? With all of the “slosh and slobber” around the Internet about Barack Obama, I thought this might be interesting to the frenzied feeders. Of course, since I’m a happy McCain supporter, my interests in this matter are solely as a public service. Did you hear???
● that Barack Obama once said there has to be “an end” to the Israeli “occupation” of the West Bank “that began in 1967.”
● that Barack Obama said that not only must Israel be secure, but that any peace agreement “must establish Palestine as a homeland for the Palestinian people.”
● that Barack Obama once said “the establishment of the state of Palestine is long overdue. The Palestinian people deserve it.”
Truth or rumors???
Reality is that there is bipartisan support for the two-country solution. I don’t vote for President solely on who will be best for Israel. Neither does the author of the referenced article. Fact is that Israel is a country that shares America’s core democratic and free-market values. What does our Middle East strategy today have to do with any of this? Plenty. Some of you may not agree or like it, but the author of the referenced article is correct in his assessment (my opinion). As the author notes, Israel sometimes pushes the envelop a bit further than perhaps it should. Often, too, their Arab neighbors are given too much leeway. Either way, the perto-dictators of the Middle East have us by our short hairs paying almost $4 per gallon of gasoline (yeah! I’ve heard everything about how the Democrats won’t allow us to drill for oil in N. Dakota or Alaska - what about off the shore of Florida???).
And now, the referenced article written by Thomas Friedman. By the way, at least according to Friedman, the above rumors are actually statements made by President Bush.

No matter how much the pattern of unsavory Obama associations keeps growing and growing, Obama and his supporters continue to ignore it, or to make excuses for it, or blame the rest of us for not interpreting it properly. However, it’s becoming increasingly clear that the real Obama, not the one he keeps projecting to us, is a radical left wing extremist, who disrespects all the American traditions and values that the rest of us hold dear. Liberal blog sites, supporting Obama, are littered with anti-semitic, anti-Israeli rants. Obama is not even close to being the right stuff to become President of the United States, or Commander and Chief. If Obama were elected president, and it became politically expedient to throw the Jews to the wolves, Obama wouldn’t hesitate. I don’t blame the Jewish community for not trusting Obama.
So Howard, should I conclude that you believe that I am an Obama supporter? Oddly enough, I wouldn’t be surprised, especially if you’re a newcomer here. Not only do I strongly support McCain (and have long before he became the nominee), but I am also quite proud that my blog isn’t easy to “brand” as conservative or liberal. Actually, I’m neither.
Whether or not you are right or wrong in your assessment is irrelevant.
It’s indeed the most unusual election period for all of us. We’re all too busy trying to catalog one another into groups. Recently I’ve been lambasted myself due to me being a Ron Paul supporter, but I guess it comes with the territory.
