Go ahead and doubt it.  Scandals involving close advisors can take down even the strongest of candidates.  Is Rudy Giuliani the “teflon candidate?”  Its one thing for Fred Thompson’s friend to be a former druggie.  Its still another when the scandal involves the man most closely associated with Rudy’s Sept. 11th pictures, and the man he pushed for the DHS position.

Kerik is expected to turn himself in to authorities Friday morning, followed by a noon arraignment at the federal courthouse in White Plains.  The charges in the indictment include mail and wire fraud, tax fraud, making false statements on a bank application, making false statements for a U.S. government position and theft of honest services…

Most damning in my opinion is the following:   Reports surfaced earlier this week that Giuliani knew more about Kerik’s relationship with Interstate Industrial Corp. than he’s let on. He’s responded by defending Kerik but apologizing at the same time.

“I should have done a better job of checking him out. I didn’t and I’ve apologized for that,” Giuliani said.

Giuliani told ABC News Thursday he made a “mistake” by not sufficiently checking Kerik’s background, and even compared Kerik to former President Richard Nixon as a person who had both triumphs and flaws.

Comparing Nixon and Kerik! Even that is a lofty mistake.  Despite the recent endorsement of the “teflon candidate” by the “holier than thou” Pat Robertson, I just don’t understand how Rudy keeps dodging the bullet of his poor people judgment.  I’m still waiting for that hidden but well known Rudy temper to show itself in public.
