Bernie’s Indictment Could Unravel Rudy

Go ahead and doubt it. Scandals involving close advisors can take down even the strongest of candidates. Is Rudy Giuliani the “teflon candidate?” Its one thing for Fred Thompson’s friend to be a former druggie. Its still another when the scandal involves the man most closely associated with Rudy’s Sept. 11th pictures, and the man he pushed for the DHS position.
Kerik is expected to turn himself in to authorities Friday morning, followed by a noon arraignment at the federal courthouse in White Plains. The charges in the indictment include mail and wire fraud, tax fraud, making false statements on a bank application, making false statements for a U.S. government position and theft of honest services…
Most damning in my opinion is the following: Reports surfaced earlier this week that Giuliani knew more about Kerik’s relationship with Interstate Industrial Corp. than he’s let on. He’s responded by defending Kerik but apologizing at the same time.
“I should have done a better job of checking him out. I didn’t and I’ve apologized for that,” Giuliani said.
Giuliani told ABC News Thursday he made a “mistake” by not sufficiently checking Kerik’s background, and even compared Kerik to former President Richard Nixon as a person who had both triumphs and flaws.
Comparing Nixon and Kerik! Even that is a lofty mistake. Despite the recent endorsement of the “teflon candidate” by the “holier than thou” Pat Robertson, I just don’t understand how Rudy keeps dodging the bullet of his poor people judgment. I’m still waiting for that hidden but well known Rudy temper to show itself in public.

Previous “Storm” Posts on Bernie Kerik…you don’t have to agree with me, but I’m nothing if I’m not consistent.

Rudy “9/11″ Giuliani: a prostitute…
Rudy “9/11″ Giuliani is a prostitute: “A person who acts in a debased or corrupt way for profit or advantage; a person who undertakes any demeaning or dishonourable act, office, or connection for personal gain” (OED). He will do anything to becom…
Ortho, you hit it squarely on the head. More later.
Storm, I think it all depends on how strong Thompson can become. Rudy’s already got strikes against him but the Dems can overplay the Kerik hand if not careful. But if Fred can make a stronger push the conservatives will drift towards him because of his long-held stances.
But I wouldn’t bet against you!
AC, I’m not so sure that Thompson is the candidate. I wrote in an earlier post, “Could it be (he asks rhetorically) that these 14 Senators from the two “mainstream” parties have recognized how radical and marginalized the positions of the Republicans and the Democrats have become…could it be that the actions of the “Gang of 14″ and their actions represent the first step in the creation of a true Third Party in the United States with Senator McCain as the standard bearer?”
I’ve also gone and “called it” for a Gingrich/Huckabee ticket.
Absolutely correct about overplaying the Kerik card…but depending on how the trial goes and what is revealed, who knows what the Dems. would need to do.
I’m not sure what “betting on me” or against me leads to at this point. I just don’t like Rudy. I strongly believe that he is the wrong choice.
