Debunking September 11th Disbelievers

Its Memorial Day weekend. We should be remembering those who have died defending this country. And IMO, we should consider those who died on September 11th to be the first casualties of this new war, the War on Terrorism.
I cannot consider those who disbelieve the events of September 11th as credible. And yet, there are those who actually continue to "seek the truth" and who believe that in some perverted way, the U.S. government was responsible for the attacks on September 11, 2001 that killed nearly 3000 people. As ludicrous as that may be, it seems that there are some Americans who believe that.
In his editorial in the Washington Post "9/11 Truth? I Don’t Think So," William H. Arkin takes those people on.
"Every day, I receive a half dozen e-mails and a score or more comments from 9/11 rejectionists. The 9/11 cover-up, according to these correspondents, is that the U.S. government was complicit, even responsible for the attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon.
Like those who often write to tell me that the Pentagon, the FBI and/or the intelligence agencies are following them, that they are mind control victims whose lives have been ruined by directed energy weapons in space or the transmitters implanted in their teeth, I have a special place for this mass of correspondence. It is called delete.
So, when the headline crossed my desktop on Monday that "Over 70 million American Adults Support New 9/11 Investigation," I admit that I fell for it and clicked on the link.
The tale is depressing. The 9/11 truth seekers, that self-declared movement who now count in their membership a number of high profile celebrities, turn out to be exactly what I thought they were: predatory and devious, seekers of polarization and not light, abusive of the political system, contemptuous of anything that even resembles the "truth."
Fast forward to 911Truth.org’s press release Monday. "Although the Bush administration continues to exploit September 11 to justify domestic spying, unprecedented spending and a permanent state of war," it said, "a new Zogby poll reveals that less than half of the American public trusts the official 9/11 story or believes the attacks were adequately investigated."
The poll, conducted from Friday, May 12 through Tuesday, May 16, shows, according to 911truth.org, that:
- 42% of Americans believe there has indeed been a cover up,
- 45% think "Congress or an International Tribunal should re-investigate the attacks, including whether any US government officials consciously allowed or helped facilitate their success" [more]
I’ve written this before, and it bears repeating now. Before my recent relocation, I lived approximately 30 miles due east of the World Trade Center. On a clear morning, I could see the tops of the towers on my way to my office. On the morning of September 11th, like many other Americans, I was getting dressed just before 9am when the first airliner hit the Towers. In disbelief, I sat down for a moment, and then, realizing what was happening, I felt compelled to continue dressing. After the first Tower crumbled, I decided to leave my home and drive to work.
It was a clear blue sky morning. As I drove north along the parkway, I could see the black smoke rising in the sky above Manhattan. I immediately thought of my daughter who lives in Manhattan, but of course, cell phones were already jammed. When I got to my office, email worked and I found her safe, but shaken. That Saturday morning, my wife and I went to Jones Beach, a favorite place at the West End, where you had a lcear shot view of lower Manhattan. Instead of the majestic towers rising to the sky, there was the pile of rubble, smoldering and spewing its black smoke in the clear morning sky. Off shore, we saw the Navy ships on patrol. And "these" people believe that the U.S. government somehow conspired to do this?
There have been conspiracy theorists on both the Moon and Storm blogs in the past. I’m certain there will be more of them now. My own opinion is that those who believe that the U.S. government orchestrated the attacks and killed all of those people are simply "daft."

Don’t feel depressed over this poll. It is too easy for people to take a poll, get about 500 responses, and then generalize by saying “of Americans”. You don’t know exactly how many there were, where they were, or even if they’re US citizens or not. I mean, they could have polled 500 people at a psych ward for all we know. Granted I’ve not researched this particular poll to any degree at all, the abuse of using “of Americans” is so entrenched in all media that it’s too easy to question about ANY poll making that 300 million generalization claim.
Actually, for anyone who has the time and wants to sit there in real disbelief, click on the link to Arkin’s editorial and then read the litany of comments. Most of them are from people who believe that the U.S. government was behind the attacks.
Mainstream media is to blame for the American public’s confusion. These 9/11 conspiracy theories are not propperly debunked because doing so would include exposing the lies told by pundits and politicians about WHY we were attacked on 9/11. All these lies serve to suppress the motives for 911, which have been stated cleary for years as in the ‘93 letter the terrorists sent the NYT: “This action was done in response for the American political, economical, and military support to Israel the state of terrorism and to the rest of the dictator countries in the region.”
The conspiracy theories AND the lies told by Bush and others must be challanged. I deal with ALL of it in my video, “Facts the “9/11 Skeptics” don’t want you to see” see: video
Could someone please explain to me why President Bush gave the Taliban $43 million in May of 2001? (see: Robert Scheer’s Bush’s Faustian Deal with the Taliban, published May 22, 2001 in The Los Angeles Times. archived at http://www.workingforchange.com/article.cfm?ItemID=11252 )
President Clinton fired a cruise missile at Osama bin Laden in Afghanistan in 1998 in retaliation for the African embassy bombings, but missed. Under Bush, the U.S. became the main sponsor of this rouge regime.
Those of us who believe Bush is a liar and a war criminal can understand the reluctance of Bush supporters to give the slightest credence to our analysis of the facts. It is extraordinarily painful to come to our viewpoint and no one does it casually or voluntarily. We are compelled to this gut-wrenching necessity by forces larger than mere politics or “Bush hatred.” We take no pleasure or satisfaction, find no pride or reward in our efforts. We have no choice in the matter. I can only empathize that our opponents feel the same way in defense of Bush, as this apparently unavoidable divisive horror plays out.
I just knew that it would happen!
What I don’t actually understand is that both Mr. Murphy and Mr. Welch are from Long Island. Where were you guys when I was living there? I’d have loved to meet both of you to somehow listen to your points of view, especially, it seems, Mr. Welch who seems to harbor beliefs that the Bush government somehow planned the attacks of September 11th and were complicit in them.
I’ll fly back to Islip Airport and buy you both dinner if I am proven wrong… but I don’t believe in the conspiracy theory…I don’t expect to have to come to LI to pay off this promise, although I’ll likely be back for business reasons…
It seems that Mr. Murphy agrees that the “conspiracy” theorists are “bunky.” It also seems that from his video, he shows engineering support for why the conspriacy theorists are “bunky.” Mr. Welch on the otherhand…mmm…on quick glance, it seems like your denial goes beyond September 11th.
Nothing’s gonna change unless there is some kind of smoking gun discovered, something like “al Qaeda was created by the CIA” or “bin Laden works for the CIA”. Short of something as absurd and over the top as that, the official Theory will stand.

Actually, I find people like “stormwarning” and his ilk to lack any credibility. You walk the company line and don’t question. You’re a good boy and deserve a gold star. You are basically sheeple.
Meanwhile, there are those out there asking “why was the evidence (at the WTC site) destroyed so quickly?” And, “why isn’t the cause of the WTC #7 fall mentioned in the official 9/11 report?”
I consider you “daft.” You ascribe some sort of supernatural or godlike quality to our government. You seem to believe that the administration is incapable of lying or committing a treacherous act. Perhaps you should ask “is blind faith in what your government tells you too much to ask?”
Why do you find it so hard to believe that our govt. had a hand in orchestrating 9/11? Let’s look at a bit of history: Our govt. breaking numerous treaties with Native Americans, and also slaughtering them. How about the Tuskegee experiment? Maybe the Gulf of Tonkin lie? Go read US history and learn something, stormwarning.
Ask yourself this: if the govt. has nothing to hide, then why is everything regarding 9/11 kept in the dark? After all, if this is a govt. by the people and for the people, then we deserve answers. I know you wouldn’t question it because you are sheeple, and if you want to stick you head in the sand, go ahead. But don’t take me with you.
If wasn’t for people fighting and questioning the status quo, we would still be living in the dark ages.
Dear University of New Mexico student (I hope that you’re only a student, because if you’re a professor, it is a sad statement):
I was going to simply delete your post because it was somewhat abusive (I still may decide to do it later). This is my space. You come here and want to disagree, do so, but do it respectfully. If you cannot, then don’t come back.
I’ve often said to other abusive and anonymous people on the Internet, “if you don’t know who you’re playing with, don’t! You want to insult me? Tell me that those airplanes didn’t really hit the World Trade Center Towers. Don’t give me that conspiracy theory crap about WTC #7.
I’ve lived through alot of the history that you’ve only read about “sonny.” Don’t tell me to “learn” about history.
As for me putting my head in the sand and “not taking you with me,” who the hell asked you to comment here in the first place?
If, as I believe, you’re a Lobo (student at Univ. of New Mexico, IP address 129.24.151.184), you certainly have a lot to learn. If you’re not a student…well, I won’t say it because I don’t believe all of the neo-con drivel about “librul” universities.
