The “Presumptive Veep List”

I read this morning what is said to be at least a partial list of Obama’s possible VP’s. Briefly, here is my handicapping of 9 of the reported 20 on the list.
John Edwards - why?
Sam Nunn - Great Choice (strong on defense and security) and author of pre-Sept. 11th warnings of attacks (even if a bit old and tired)
Al Gore - why?
Pennsylvania Rep. John Murtha - a really bad choice
Ohio Governor Ted Strickland - OK
Joe Biden - my vote for smartest guy in Senate; big mouth; Nunn a better choice
Chris Dodd - weak
Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius - recently strong
Arizona Gov. Janet Napolitano - took action against illegal aliens (might be a good choice)
There will be more. But not now. Just my opinion.
Obama VP list
Scratch Strickland. A good choice but he’s removed himself from consideration.
I would also think Napolitano would not be a serious consideration due to her position on illegals probably alienating an already iffy possible voting bloc.
Given Dodd’s recent Countrywide exposure, not a consideration either.
Sam Nunn would be excellent, but his strong military advocacy and pre-911 warnings set the stage for Iraq politically. I can’t see Obama teaming up with someone who basically runs counter to Obama’s most vocal issue. A lot of people are speculating a strong military presence for veep, but I really, really, can’t see Obama going that route for many reasons, primarily his strong anti-military, anti-gun, and anti-Iraq positions. He tried toying with that concept I think this week and we got the Winnie the Pooh garbage. He’s better off just keeping his focus on social issues and just ceding the military/security issue entirely. He can’t win it.
Given that logic, I see someone like Sebelius or McCaskill. A white ultra-liberal anti-military female to appease the Hillary supporters.
And actually, I think that Sam Nunn could end up being the choice for that very reason…to give some credibility to Obama’s non-existent National Security platform. The fact that Nunn and Hart were right and no one really read their reports until it was too late, I think makes him a great choice. However, “great choices” don’t seem to be Obama’s strong point.
Not Al Gore, he would not take the job. He’s raking in billions with his carbon credits scam.
Essentially, that’s why I wrote “why.” I doubt if the “billions” can be substantiated by fact…calling it a scam, is another thing.
