From an Unabashed “Homer”

I admit it. I’m a “homer.” Not like Homer Simpson, but as in a nearly blind allegiance to the home team, the NY Giants the Champions of Super Bowl XLII. Try doing that in the open in Dallas Cowboy country! One of our greats, Michael Strahan retired today. Both plus and minus, he was not Lawrence Taylor.
Michael Strahan was great. His wild abandon as he rushed the opposing quarterback; his pursuit in chasing down a running back trying to turn the corner. And what most fans would never see, his leadership in the locker room. We may never know how Strahan helped to stabilize the team and give the young Eli Manning a foundation of strength. Michael Strahan was a true leader and a quiet man. While Lawrence Taylor may have been a better and stronger all-around player, Strahan never diminished the stature of the NY Giants like Lawrence Taylor did with his off (and on) the field drug use.
Michael Strahan, big number 92…the man with the gap toothed smile and the soft spoken voice. Yes, Michael Strahan will be a sorely missed, hard to replace Hall of Fame inductee in 2013 when he become eligible.

I hope Strahan makes it into the Hall on the first ballot. But it will be a tough class: Favre and Sapp, and probably Jonathan Ogden, Larry Allen, and Junior Seau.
