Whites in America - ‘ineradicably racist’

Posted by StormWarning on 31 May 2008 | Tagged as: Commentary, Politics

ADDED: As noted below, I suspect that some “IQ sharing people” will not get the point of this post. I am not too surprised. There are people all over who read stuff like the chain email referred to by the Congressional Quarterly and believe it…that Michelle Obama’s senior thesis contained blatantly racist remarks (which it did not)…never check facts, repeat what they “read” to others, and then, in almost an instant, it spreads around the Internet and becomes “fact.” So, as you can see below from the one comment, you can count on the inability of the people of this country to see the difference between fact and fiction…or even to read past the headline of an article. So thankyou “CK in a Red State” for proving my point.

ORIGINAL POST:One of the easiest ways to try to attack Barack Obama is to go after his wife. A recent email circulated around the Internet alleges that Michelle Obama’s senior thesis at Princeton stated that America was a nation founded on ‘crime and hatred’ and stated that whites in America were ‘ineradicably racist.’
The full thesis can be found in sections here: Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, Part 4.

All of the evidence suggests that while Michelle’s thesis was race-conscious, it does not include anti-white invectives. The truth is that her thesis did not say what the chain e-mail alleged. The Congressional Quarterly PolitiFact.com calls Chain e-mails (chain e-mails circulate on the Internet, making charges against a candidate).

Additional sources on this matter:
Politico, Michelle Obama thesis was on racial divide, Feb. 22, 2008
Princeton University, The senior thesis
Princeton University, Senior theses and Ph.D. dissertations
Princeton University, Sociology Department
Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Georgian recalls rooming with Michelle Obama, April 13, 2008
Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Roommate story resonates strongly across racial lines, April 19, 2008

The Internet has spawned a breed of commentators who seek and find information that supports their point of view or prejudice…and then, like the old waxy string and orange juice can, the “information” spreads like wildfire, morphing, changing shape, and taking on alife of its own…even when it isn’t true (and there are some people who will believe it).

Feel better now?

Give Me a Break! What NAU?

Posted by StormWarning on 31 May 2008 | Tagged as: Commentary, Editorial, Federal Policy, National Security, Opinions, US Federal Policy

If you don’t know what the NAU is, then you haven’t been sucked in by one of the other conspiracy theories that has spread around the blogosphere…the so-called North American Union. Its believers somehow think that President Bush and his other North American presidents are conspiring to create a United North America…all predicated on a theoretical paper written by the Council for Foreign Relations in 2005 and the existence of the SPP (Security and Prosperity Partnership). This goes hand in hand with the supposed NAFTA Superhighway. It has to be true, doesn’t it??? All of these important guys signed it!

Now, you see, to believe that there is a secret cabal working within our government to bring about the demise of the sovereign United States is beyond reason and belief (in my opinion of course). But there are some people who actually believe it…some of those are from the “truth seekers” group, and others on in the group of “pseudo-experts.”  BTW, its supposed to happen in 2010.

As I have written in the past, while a secure perimeter around North America makes sense in many ways, there will be no removal of border controls or immigration requirements…certainly not while the Mexican government cannot control its own outmigration.

While anyone can try to debate this, even Snopes debunks it.  One of the things lacking in today’s World of “read it on the Internet and scoop other bloggers mentality” is critical thinking (its one of those things like creativity…if you’ve got it, you’ve got it…if you “don’t got it”…you can’t learn it).

One Hundred Three Days

Posted by StormWarning on 31 May 2008 | Tagged as: Commentary, Opinions

In 103 days, we will reach the 7th Memorial of the attacks of September 11th, 2001. Since that day, many things have happened, and yet, many things remain unchanged. As we approach that moment, I plan to offer some of my observations on American life as it has evolved from that day, and to discuss a few trends that are bothersome. To those who may be offended by what I write, I am sorry. But you have either read too much into my words, or, rather, you see my words describing you all too well.

Who am I to write such things? Why, I am an American…I am a patriot…I am a man who now serves his country in ways that many others cannot, through my mind, my words and my efforts. Deny me that, and you make your first mistake…but alas, not your last. I am also a writer of note in my true embodiment, but write here anonymously to permit me the latitude of expressing thoughts and feelings that, as myself, would (or might) be inappropriate, and counter to my life’s goals. So, let us begin…there are the:

Truth Seekers: This group, as I define it, is composed of two very distinct clusters. The first, and the more amusing of the two, are those who continue to contend that the attacks of September 11th were either planned or perpetrated by the United States government on its own people, and that airliners did not crash into and enflame the two towers of the World Trade Center. These same people claim that a missile and not an airplane struck the Pentagon that morning (of course, belied by people, including a friend or two of mine who sat in traffic on 395 and saw the crash). But for the purpose of what, I ask? I suppose the answer is that the federal government needed to trump up a reason to go to war and wind-up that economic engine of the military industrial complex and to compromise the Bill of Rights in the name of the Global War on Terrorism. Of course, these people deny the eye witnesses who watched the planes hit the Towers…and they too, deny the live broadcasts that showed the airplanes striking the buildings. This component of the “truth seekers” is dangerous only because their hilarious approach to the tragedy leaves a few others, simpletons, asking the question of “if” the conspriacy theories are true.

The second element of the “truth seekers,” however, are much more devastating. Using the power of the Internet, they not only find support for their interpretation of the truth (feeding off of the random postings of other “truth seekers”), but then, by virtue of the power of their own ability to censor other people who might disagree with their version of reality, will both shut them down, stifle opposition and then resort to name calling of the worst order. Some even, in the best comedy since Jackie Gleeson and the Honeymooners, sling words that are not words, but which, by repetition, suddenly become vernacular. It is this second group who clamp down on, and then ridicule anyone who opposes their narrowminded views, that represents a great threat to the very country they contend they love more than anyone else. They are the Internet warriors. They claim patriotism and yet reject freedom of speech and deny any views but theirs have any merit.

Pseudo-Experts: Of course, this is a much more subjective supposition on my part. The blogosphere has spawned so many “experts.” It was written in US News and World Report when they announced the “Best Blogs of 2006” that there were lots of instant experts in counterterrorism. Well, there are some people who actually know about which they write (even, humbly, I present myself, despite the anonymity of Stormwarning’s Counterterrorism). There are others who suddenly awakened when they vicariously saw the planes crash into the buildings in NY City and Washington DC, and decided that they would begin commenting on the events of the day. This is not to suggest that people are not welcome to offer their opinions and observations. Not at all! That is not my intent. But from what perspective do many of these people write, except for the borrowed knowledge and information from others? In fact, there are a few who have emerged, even one very young yet wise beyond her years writer who offers a unique perspective on the world and world events, although through a filter of nomenclature that only recently was translated for others.

There are many, in fact, who write with a background in the military and in the intelligence world’s whose insights I read each day. Yet, one self proclaimed “expert” recently exclaimed that even when a true expert offers an opinion, in this case, debunking a Network report, that not until the “authorities” confirm or deny the reports, is it time to believe the true expert. Odd, but the contradictions are many.

In the coming days and weeks, as I have more time (if I can find the time), I will provide additional observations.

Iran, al Qaeda and ABC

Posted by StormWarning on 30 May 2008 | Tagged as: Commentary, Editorial, International Issues, Iran, Jihad, National Security, Opinions, Pakistan, Terrorism

This is early, and the source is somewhat dubious since ABC has had a recent spate of “breaking news” blurts that diminishes the network to a “blogoburster,” but ABC is reporting that “officials familiar with highly sensitive intelligence on this issue,” that Iran and al Qaeda are in high level discussions. While questioning whether Iran will release bin Laden’s son’s (who are at the core of these discussions), the motives are unclear.

“The Iranians know there would be hell to pay if these guys were set free,” a U.S. official told ABC News.

“Iran likely sees these individuals, as major bargaining chips,” says another official. “How and when they’re going to use those chips or whether they are going to keep them in the bank is part of an ongoing strategic discussion they are having internally.”

Apparently, after September 11th, al Qaeda split into two groups, one heading to the mountains of Pakistan and the other, led by Saif al Adel (an Egyptian), went to Iran (Adel is suspected as the leader of the group that attacked the U.S. embassies in Kenya and Tanzania in 1998 - the US State Department has put a $5 million bounty on his head). The group that fled to Iran is said to include al Qaeda’s shura (management council), and over 2 dozens members including some of bin Laden’s relatives, including two of his sons, Saad and Hamza.

“Al Qaeda would like to get those folks a deal and they’ve been trying to work a deal,” a senior defense official tells ABC News. “Right now there is greater effort being applied by al Qaeda to seek a resolution.” Although Iran has recently signaled a willingness to discuss the issue, this official says, “I don’t see the Iranian government desiring to work very fast or quickly on that. ”

AND

“Iran has repeatedly resisted numerous calls to transfer custody of its AQ detainees to their countries of origin or third countries for interrogations or trial,” the report says. “Iran also continued to fail to control the activities of some AQ members who fled to Iran following the fall of the Taliban regime in Afghanistan.”

Motives behind these reported talks?
* Under one theory, the talks are a reaction to al Qaeda’s recent anti-Iranian rhetoric…Iran may be making an unspoken threat to al Qaeda’s leadership: If al Qaeda attempts to attack Iran, these people will suffer.

* Iran may have initiated the talks as a threat to the United States, that if the U.S. takes hostile action against Iran, these captives could be released, set free to plot attacks against the West.

Either way, I have an issue with the ABC statement: ABC News interviewed several high-level U.S. national security officials for this story. Because of the sensitive nature of intelligence on this subject, all spoke on the condition that their names not be used. We also asked the government of Iran to comment on this story. The spokesman for the Iranian Mission to the United States said he could not answer our specific questions but told us combating terrorism “remains one of the main Iranian political priorities.”

Also covered by the Right Truth in Iran Joining Forces with al Qaeda.

Frankly, I’ll be interested to see how this all plays out in the next few days.

Along the Road to Democracy

Posted by StormWarning on 29 May 2008 | Tagged as: Commentary, Editorial, International Issues, Iraq, Jihad, National Security, Opinions, Pakistan, Policy, Politics, Syria, Terrorism

As I have before, I find myself in a sort of political “nowhere land” largely because despite what I believe in my heart, I also have a deep-seated distain for the type of personal attack politics that now pervades our society. On many issues, including the War in Iraq, I am strongly Republican (even though I feel that policy, strategy and tactical mistakes have been made). Yet when I voice my pro-choice belief, I am immediately challenged and branded a “librul.” It is clear that one is not afforded the opportunity (or privilege) of walking that thin-line in the American Middle.

There is nothing in either Democratic Party candidate that could prompt me to vote for them. Frankly, I am glad that John McCain, regardless of his flaws (aren’t we all flawed afterall?), is the candidate for the Republican Party (I am equally thrilled that a social, or “values” conservative is not the party’s nominee).

At the same time, it is impossible to maintain my views in World and National Affairs, focused on security both home and abroad, and not be appalled by this video compilation in which the Democratic Party leaders ask for what amounts to be a precipitous withdrawal from Iraq.

The road to democracy, our continuing quest to perfect an already perfect Union, remains a challenge each day. If not motivated solely by partisan politics, but in fact, driven by strongly held beliefs, these Democratics leaders are entitled to their opinions.

The reality is as former Secretary of State Powell noted…”we broke it, we need to fix it” (or something close to that). Leaving Iraq and abandoning the Middle East…in fact, abandoning the “fix the Middle East” strategy of the Bush Administration can only lead to the emboldening of those people who our State Department and Department of Homeland Security refuse to call what they are, Isalamic Fundamentalist Jihadists, exactly the opportunity they plan…a World power without the resolve to see through to the end an effort, regardless how flawed, poorly planned and implemented, or even falsely justified…and with that, the Long War of the Global War on Terrorism will be both longer, and more difficult to win.

Prevail we must…for the sake of our democracy, we must. And we will. Despite the character assassination, the inuendo, the gossip, the lies and falsehoods, the “swift boating” and all of the rest of the dirty, Internet inspired politics…we will emerge the day after this coming election day with a President who will have won the most Electoral votes, and as envisioned by our Founding Fathers, power will transfer, and the Nation shall prevail. In what state the World will be on that day, is a completely different question.

Pre-emptive Assassinations (Revisited)

Posted by StormWarning on 28 May 2008 | Tagged as: Jihad, Pakistan, Policy, Terrorism

Last week, under the title Pre-emptive Assassinations, I posed once again the merits of targeted assassinations of certain individuals. At the time, I was writing about people like Ahmadinejad and Chavez, but it could also hold for our jihadist “friends.” I have long favored sending a “black” team into the mountains of Pakistan to hunt down and kill bin Laden (and wondered why we haven’t sent them). There are many reasons why this hasn’t occurred. The least likely is Presidential Executive Order 12333 prohibiting the killing of World leaders. Afterall, bin Laden isn’t the head of any nation. It also cannot be that we don’t have the reason or the will to do it. My own conclusion is that we actually don’t know where he is, despite all of our Intelligence. It is possible.

Just the other day, my blog buddy at Right Truth posted, Target — Osama? In one of the comments to that post, another new “blog friend” posed a few suggestions that, frankly, I do not understand (not that I don’t see what he’s getting at, but more, that I’m not aware of the technology to which the individual refers). This is what he wrote (referring to the Waziristan Accords between Pakistan and the Taliban/tribes):

However, once the accord was established, it meant that we could walk into that region and take out OBL, but it never happened. We passed up a unique window of opportunity.

Given today’s GPS technologies and the ability to place a “beeper” inside a living body cavity, I am certain that they know the exact whereabouts of bin Laden. Maybe they’re just too concerned they might botch things up as usual. Why they never released an al-Qaida prisoner from GTMO, but infused a sensor inside his body is beyond me.

That might have allowed for easy detection, as the ex-prisoner would lead us directly to bin Laden, thus us being able to capture him alive, perhaps.

Now, without disclosure, and for alot of reasons, these suggestions “do not compute” for me (see “Lost in Space“). So I posed a couple of questions to the original commenter. Unfortunately, Right Truth is a busy place, and the individual did not see my queries. So, in case he “happens by” here at some point, I now reproduce those questions (because I really do want to know and be informed):

I am hoping that he will return at some point and provide some insight into the idea of our “ability to place a beeper inside a living body” (that would have to be done covertly)…or how we can “infuse a sensor” into bin Laden’s body. I only ask because I’m interested in such things :)

I’m not as certain as he is that we know the exact location of Osama. As for “infusing a sensor,” I’d be fascinated to know what technology we’re discussing here.

So, hopefully, with this blogs slower traffic, perhaps I will be illuminated.

al Qaeda WMD Hoax

Posted by StormWarning on 28 May 2008 | Tagged as: Commentary, Current Affairs, Jihad, National Security

Its a good thing that I’ve been busy all day and ignored some of the earlier trash about this story. En garde! Despite some reports to the contrary from some of the usual suspects like Drudge, a scary report about an al Qaeda tape threatening a WMD attack has been declared a prank and a hoax.

The headlines, splashed across The Drudge Report, ABC News and other major news sites last night, were scary indeed:

AL QAEDA TAPE TO CALL FOR USE OF WMD

According to the reports, the tape urged jihadists to use “biological, chemical and nuclear weapons to attack the West,” and a quote from an official source followed, adding further credibility:

“There have been several reports that al Qaeda will release a new message calling for the use of weapons of mass destruction (WMD) against civilians,” FBI spokesman Richard Kolko told ABC News in an e-mail.

Luckily, Evan Kohlmann posted a prompt dismissal of this as a hoax. From the Counterterrorism Blog:

For the record: there is no indication whatsoever that Al-Qaida’s As-Sahab Media Foundation is preparing to release anything in the next 24 hours. There has been no notification posted on the usual channels, there are no glitzy advertisements, and there is no credible electronic chatter, period. Rather, the intel community appears to have (once again) fallen victim to poorly researched open source news reporting. In recent days, several fringe media organizations have published stories about a video recording posted by anonymous Al-Qaida miscreants on extremist Internet chat forums. The video consisted of a remarkably amateurish mash-up of Discovery Channel documentaries, widely published sermons by radical clerics, and stolen propaganda footage. While it is perhaps true that the video offered subtle encouragement for nuclear attacks on the United States, it featured no original content and could have been clumsily strung together with little more than two VCRs. The video was meandering, boring, and difficult to follow–and it certainly was not the product of Al-Qaida.

Further debunking of the Nuclear Jihad Web Threat is found here.

Between a Mistake and a Lie

Posted by StormWarning on 27 May 2008 | Tagged as: Commentary, Politics

NOTE: THERE ARE “SOME” WHO WILL DISAGREE WITH THIS POST

Please make no mistake about the fact that I plan to vote for John McCain. There is no reason to even consider voting for either of the Democratic candidates. However, some are “oh, so fast: to tear someone apart without knowing the difference between a mistake and a lie (or fabrication). How many of you can name more than one Nazi death camp without the use of Google? B-U-C-H-E-N-W-A-L-D.

The correct story is that Mr. Obama’s great uncle, Charlie Payne – his grandmother’s brother – actually helped liberate Ohrdruf, a sub-camp of Buchenwald. Mr. Payne was a member of the 89th Infantry Division.

Senator Obama has made so many “gaffs” and mis-statements, that it is embarrassing. However, one of the questions that needs to be asked is this:

All of which raises the question: What’s worse, Obama’s apparent gaffe or the RNC pouncing on a Holocaust-related historical mistake for political advantage?

We live in a world where the scoop, the first to publish, the beating someone else to the punch…blogging for effect and not fact…is the rule and not the exception. Obama is a fool who speaks without researching his own family background…a background that many would be proud of having. But

“Senator Obama’s family is proud of the service of his grandfather and uncles in World War II - especially the fact that his great uncle was a part of liberating one of the concentration camps at Buchenwald. Yesterday he mistakenly referred to Auschwitz instead of Buchenwald in telling of his personal experience of a soldier in his family who served heroically,” said Obama campaign spokesman Bill Burton this afternoon in a statement, which also clarified that the great-uncle “Served in the 89th Infantry Division that Liberated Ohrdruf, a Subcamp of Buchenwald, the First Camp Liberated by Americans, on April 4, 1945.”

But for conservative bloggers, Obama has finally gone beyond the pale. “Sickening,” huffs Red State. “Barack Obama must be the most gaffe-prone politician in memory,” reports PowerLine. “The Young Gaffer Sees Dead People,” chortles Hot Air.

Chortling is exactly what this is. No one takes the time to check facts…everyone jumps on first words…and then, the question remains, does anyone post corrections? I think not. The “hits” are too important.

Muslim Brotherhood Flip-flopping Statements on al Qaeda

Posted by StormWarning on 27 May 2008 | Tagged as: Afghanistan, Current Affairs, Iraq, Jihad, Terrorism

Is this a scramble to avoid accountability or a parsing of words?  Seems that the “supreme guide” of the Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood, Mohammed Mahdi Akef, had some 2nd thoughts.  At first, it sounded like he was praising bin Laden, but then he tried to “swallow his words.” It is clearly a question of the meaning of “jihad.”

Mr. Mahdi Akef tried to water down his statements in which he had praised Bin Laden and thus justified it by saying, “what Bin Laden is doing against the occupier in Iraq and other Muslim countries that are under occupation is jihad, but what he is committing against people and civilians in Muslim and other states is wrong.”

The question is: Are the acts that Al-Qaeda is committing in Iraq; the killing, treachery and entrapment of people, including the physically ill, women and children; the beheadings and targeting of markets, schools and houses of worship, not to mention the demolition of installations and the crippling of the political process in Iraq – be considered jihad? Can the crimes that Al-Qaeda commits in Afghanistan be considered jihad?

Alas, “bin Akef” is caught in his own words…backtracking is so hard to do…Even his subsequent statements denying that he praised al Qaeda make it hard(er) for him to justify…

Akif said: “We (the Brotherhood) have nothing to do with Al-Qaeda or Osama Bin Laden… we are against violence except when fighting the occupier…When he (Bin Laden) fights the occupier then he is a mujahid, and when he attacks civilians, then this is rejected.” He added that “the word Al-Qaeda (Organization) is an American illusion…Bin Laden has a thought …his thought is based on violence, and we do not approve of violence under any circumstances except one and that is fighting an occupier. We have nothing to do with Al-Qaeda or Osama Bin Laden…we condemn any thought that leads to violence. When Bin Laden fights the occupier then he is a mujahid, when he attacks the innocent and citizens then this is rejected.”

But he draws a very thin line, differentiating between the “occupier” and the people of the “occupied” land. Such is the conflict that exists in today’s Muslim world. Caught between speaking out against America, and not looking like it supports the violence and bloodshed brought upon the people of Iraq and Afghanistan in al Qaeda’s efforts to fight the Coalition.

Intelligence ===> Valor

Posted by StormWarning on 26 May 2008 | Tagged as: Commentary, Current Affairs, National Security

Many serve this country in different ways. Some in glory, others in anonymity. Some by choice, and others by circumstance. The men and women of our intelligence services who have died in the country’s service are often forgotten.

The Stars on the Wall
The CIA Memorial Wall is one of the first things visitors see when entering the Original Headquarters Building lobby. The wall – located on the lobby’s north wall – stands as a silent memorial to those CIA employees “who gave their lives in the service of their country.” Currently, there are 87 stars carved into the marble of the CIA Memorial Wall.

The”Book of Honor” lists the names of 54 employees who died while serving their country. The names of the remaining 33 employees must remain secret, even in death; each of these officers is remembered in the book by a star.

Last Memorial Day: CIA Adds Four Stars to Memorial Wall

Storm: If you’ve never been there, you cannot begin to understand the utter feeling of awe when you stand staring at the Wall of Stars and realize the silent sacrifice made by those whose lives are represented.

DIA Patriots’ Memorial

A GRATEFUL NATION RECOGNIZES THOSE WHO
HAVE MADE THE SUPREME SACRIFICE WHILE
PROTECTING OUR FREEDOM.

The Patriots’ Memorial honors Defense Intelligence Agency employees who died in the service of the United States. The memorial occupies a prominent position in the lobby of the Defense Intelligence Analysis Center (DIAC), at Bolling Air Force Base. For Agency employees and visitors to the DIAC, this memorial acts as a daily reminder of these brave individuals and their ultimate sacrifice.

Dedication: On 14 December 1988, then DIA Director Lieutenant General Leonard Perroots dedicated the memorial, and Deputy Secretary of Defense William H. Taft, III, spoke at the ceremony and noted the service of those being honored. General Perroots presented the families with a replica of the plaque in memory of their lost loved one. Unfortunately, a number of Agency employees have died in the line of duty since 1988, and their names have been enshrined as well.

Storm: There are many who comment…and not so many who “do.”  It is with a sense of their duty and recognition of the role they performed that I now bow my head…to thank those Intelligence officers who died in the defense of our Nation, perhaps in total anonymity…and to be thankful of the opportunity to serve.

Memorial Day - Remember the Children

Posted by StormWarning on 25 May 2008 | Tagged as: Current Affairs

In days of War, often more than in times of Peace, people count…they quote numbers. How many children have lost one or both parents during the War on Terrorism?

War takes its toll not only on the troops who fight in the field, but also on the families who wait and worry at home. More than 155,000 kids have at least one parent who is deployed in the war on terrorism; this staggering figure doesn’t even include those experiencing routine, but often lengthy, deployments and separations from loved ones. Many children are experiencing multiple deployments or have more than one parent or family member deployed.

On December 20, 2004, it was written that almost 900 children had lost a parent in the Iraq War.

On Mar 21, 2005, it was written that over 1000 children had lost a parent in the Iraq War.

I don’t know the number of children who have now lost parents in Iraq/Afghanistan. I suspect that the number if over 2500.

Since the nation’s founding, more than 650,000 Americans have been killed in action, and more than 1.5 million have been wounded…

Stop Grupo Romo & The New Sanctuary Movement

Posted by StormWarning on 25 May 2008 | Tagged as: Commentary, Editorial, Immigration, Mexico, National Security, Opinions, Political Correctness, Religion, Social Issues

Its been subrosa for a while, but now revealed, that a group of Catholics named Grupo Romo is working to address what thet call “the increasingly toxic anti-immigrant atmosphere” by turning the Alamo City into a sanctuary for unauthorized immigrants. These are “faith-driven” activists providing shelter, food and medical care for what this article refers to as “unauthorized immigrants” (this is political correctness carried to a ludicrous extreme!)…call these people what they are! They are “illegal aliens” who enter this country illegally by surreptitiously sneaking across holes in our border with Mexico (along with G-d knows whoever else).

The encouragement offered by this “well meaning” Grupo Romo is contrary to anything that any law-abiding citizen of the United States should countenance…residents of Texas where the population is 36% Hispanic (counting only the legal residents) and in San Antonio, where the legal Hispanic population is nearly 58% is astounding. Grupo Romo, despite their “faith base” and religious cloak, are aiding and abetting law breakers.

“We are the new Sanctuary Movement in San Antonio,” said group member Víctor Ruiz, 63, who works for the immigration division of Catholic Charities and previously was with the Defense Department in Corpus Christi. “If immigrants need help, we will do all we can to help them out.”

The original “Sanctuary Movement” was a religious effort in the 1980s that created an underground railroad for Central Americans fleeing the region’s bloody civil wars, whose trail crossed South Texas…

…Offering sanctuary to the undocumented is controversial even within immigrant-heavy congregations…

Despite their religious basis, Grupo Romo and other like them are breaking the law! This whole “New Sanctuary” movement is contrary to the Law of the Land!

● Jim “Hoot” Gibson, a San Antonio teacher and member of U.S. Border Watch, a Houston-based immigration-restriction group, said he and others stand ready to protest the Romo group. The law is unequivocal, Gibson said: They’ll be aiding and harboring undocumented immigrants.

● local ICE Director, Jerry Robinette says that “He’s all for people acting on political and religious convictions, and he’s got nothing against helping needy folks, but he can’t look the other way if they break immigration laws.” and “I’d caution them that good intentions could make them criminally liable,” Robinette said. “They have to make the decision whether they want to violate the law or not.”

Movements like the New Sanctuary Movement work against our National Security in the name of “faith.” Groups like these must be stopped. While their ideals a correct, the fact that they encourage law breaking is something I cannot support.

Mexico Jails Attacker (and other Mexican news)

Posted by StormWarning on 24 May 2008 | Tagged as: Mexico

You’ve got to say that is about time that the Mexican government did something to quell the violence.

A donkey is doing time in southern Mexico for assault and battery.
The animal was locked up at a local jail that normally holds people for public drunkenness and other disturbances after it bit and kicked two men near a ranch in Chiapas state, police said Monday.

Officer Sinar Gomez said the donkey will remain behind bars until its owner agrees to pay the men’s medical bills.

Ask why our gasoline prices are so high?

Average output for the first four months of the year was 2.875 mbd, down from 3.164 compared with the same period last year, according to Pemex.

So, Mexico remains a simple (no!, complex) contradiction.

Columbian Terrorist Leader Dead

Posted by StormWarning on 24 May 2008 | Tagged as: Current Affairs, International Issues, Terrorism

Its probably best to say that the “FARCing” guy is dead! Not that it will really change much in Columbia, but an army spokesman has said that Manuel Marulanda (aka ‘Sure Shot’) has died (on March 26 at 6:30pm), probably of natural causes.

In the more than 40 years of his leadership, the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC insurgency grew from a ragtag group of 48 farmers in Southern Columbia to an army of thousands in a civil war that has killed more than 200,000. The FARC insurgency has been financed through narcotics trade, “war taxes” and kidnappings. It is estimated that the FARC now holds 750 or more hostages.

Pedro Antonio Marin, known as Manuel Marulanda Vilez and nicknamed Tirofijo, is believed to have died of a heart attack, ministry spokesman Juan Manuel Santos said.

“He must be in hell,” Santos told a reporter from Semana magazine.

According to the U.S. State Department, “Sure Shot” was the ultimate approver of the FARC’s move into cocaine trafficking.

Optimistically, the Columbian Defense Ministry says:

First word of Marulanda’s possible death came earlier Saturday when the newsmagazine Semana quoted Defense Minister Juan Manuel Santos as saying he had information that Marulanda died in the guerrillas’ southern Colombian stronghold at the time of three bombing raids.

“Whether the death of Marulanda came in a bombardment or from natural causes, this would be the most serious blow this terrorist group has suffered,” the Defense Ministry statement said.

“If (the FARC) are going to say that the information we have is not true, they should show him,” said the statement, which was read by the military’s chief of staff, Adm. David Moreno. It said Marulanda has been replaced as FARC leader by a rebel ideologue known as Alfonso Cano.

I doubt it! Frankly, you can cut off the head of the snake, and another head grows. It is said that Marulanda will be replaced by Alfonso Cano, a longtime ideologue for FARC. Especially with the support of Hugo Chavez, I see no reason to believe that the FARC is dead…just Marulanda.

MIchelle Malkin discusses the FARCing death in Old-School FARC commander dies, possibly from myocardial inFARCtion (and/or bombs)…I think my line is funnier though. Also, FYI, check out the Memorial Day Weekend Reading Assignment at Right Truth.
